The digital transparency (DT) concept consists of information captured from the analog original, in all its richness and texture, and its transformation into digital form. Once an image is fully captured in this way, it can be processed at any stage for any output device, either during scanning or later, enabling a distributed workflow. However, to ensure high quality output for any medium, it is imperative that the stored image contain all the information from the original, so that it can be reproduced accurately when it is repurposed. The Digital Transparency workflow captures all the information in the analog transparency, saves and stores large quantities of large data files, and processes the image for new applications in a pixel depth of 16 bits per channel (RGB).

Many graphic arts production professionals need to digitize many images, of which only a few are selected as suitable for publication. The OXYGEN DTi workflow was developed to support the publishing industry.

  • Quality: Digital transparency files are 16-bit scans that capture the finest details of the original.
  • Speed: Since the OXYGEN DTi workflow enables parallel scanning into OPI low-res format and then replacement and conversion of only selected images to high-resolution DTs, scanning speed is very high.
  • Parallel workflow: This is a new way of production, redefining the scanning, archiving and image repurposing as the layout is designed in parallel to the scanning.
  • Digital Archiving: Publishers can scan and save images as 16-bit DTi files. These images can be repurposed any time, for any need in the future, without having them rescanned.
