Highlights 40th anniversary of Kodak’s development of continuous inkjet technology

CHICAGO, Sept. 10—Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group (GCG), in the midst of a celebration marking the 40th anniversary of its technology for high speed continuous inkjet printing, today announced another major milestone. In 2007, KODAK VERSAMARK Printing Systems will top 90 billion black and white and color A4 impressions through a combination of full page document production, partial page or hybrid printing, and address imaging. The partial print pages are normalized to an A4 page size for the count purpose.

“Reaching this mark reflects our long standing commitment of offering scaleable and modular continuous inkjet printing systems that allow customers to upgrade and add features as their needs develop,” said Isidre Rosello, General Manager, Transaction & Industrial Solutions, Vice President, Graphic Communications Group and Vice President, Eastman Kodak Company. “For example, by making it easy to add color capabilities to monochrome systems, we’re helping print providers take advantage of new opportunities with transactional documents and other applications.”

Kodak’s high speed continuous inkjet solutions turned the time intensive production of materials requiring personalized data—direct mail, transactional documents, lottery tickets, business forms—into an efficient process. Four decades later, continuous inkjet printing serves an expanding range of applications.

Based on existing and future technologies, as well as the growth of TransPromo and other new print communication tools, Kodak anticipates that breaking the 100 billion A4 impressions per year barrier is not far off. TransPromo refers to the ability to add promotional messages to standard monthly bills and statements.

“More applications and techniques are being discovered and refined for high speed continuous inkjet printing, driven by the increased use of process color and personalized data to deliver high impact messages that drive results,” said Pat McGrew, Data Center & Transaction Segment Evangelist, Kodak.
