ROCHESTER, N.Y. Oct. 11—Media Druck GmbH, an Austrian newspaper printer, recently purchased three KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS 200 thermal platesetters, including the 1,000th thermal CTP system for newspapers sold by Kodak around the world. In addition to the three TRENDSETTER NEWS 200 CTP devices, Media Druck GmbH purchased a KODAK MERCURY NEWS plate processor and KODAK THERMALNEWS Gold digital plates.
“Shipping 1,000 CTP devices for newspapers reflects our commitment to helping newspaper customers use digital technology to improve productivity, expand capabilities and boost profitability,” said Marc Delorme, Product Manager, Newspaper CTP devices, Kodak. “With thermal CTP solutions, newspapers can extend printing deadlines and achieve outstanding quality and consistency—two key strategies for newspapers to remain competitive in today’s 24/7, media rich environment.”
Based in Tulln, Austria, Media Druck GmbH was established in 2006. It prints Österreich, a new daily that has a weekday circulation of 300,000 and a weekend circulation of 600,000. According to Österreich’s Publisher Wolfgang Fellner, by integrating heat-set printing to improve the attractiveness of the paper, the company will gain new readers and attract advertisers.
“Our goal was to launch the printing process with the highest possible quality,” said Ing. Mag. Ernst Mühlmann, President of Media Druck GmbH. “We value the rugged design of the TRENDSETTER NEWS system because it delivers a high level of production reliability and provides the necessary format flexibility, while THERMALNEWS Gold plates deliver an absolutely sharp dot throughout the entire run. This characteristic creates an exceptionally high quality standard in both the cold-set and the heat-set parts of the daily newspaper.”
KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS thermal CTP systems bring the speed, quality, and consistency of thermal imaging to newspaper printing. They come in five models ranging in speed from 60 to more than 240 plates per hour to suit newspaper printing facilities of all sizes. Available in both automatic and semi-automatic plate loading and unloading, the TRENDSETTER NEWS device delivers fast, reliable imaging with a standard file-format interface to suit newspaper printing facilities of all sizes.
A TRENDSETTER NEWS platesetter with KODAK SQUARESPOT imaging technology can increase profit potential by giving printers the flexibility to produce plates for cold-set and heat-set inserts, in addition to newspaper printing. The TRENDSETTER NEWS platesetter with SQUARESPOT thermal imaging technology produces plates of a quality that is unique among high-speed CTP newspaper systems. KODAK STACCATO screening enables vibrant, high-fidelity, moiré-free printing that resists tone and misregistration caused by color shifts on press. KODAK THERMALNEWS Gold digital plates provide outstanding quality output and run lengths of more than 200,000 without postbaking as well as precise reproduction of high resolution, first generation thermal dots, with no dot gain at plate level.
Thermal CTP technology, which was invented by Kodak, celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2006, as Kodak continues to lead the industry with innovative new CTP solutions.
