ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 5—KODAK PRINERGY 3.1 workflow systems now comply with the Ghent PDF Workgroup (GWG) 2005 PDF/X-Plus V3 specifications for preflight.
GWG compliance delivers on the promise of KODAK Unified Workflow solutions to support open industry standards—such as JDF, PDF and PDF/X—to provide greater efficiency, quality and predictability throughout the print production workflow. Attaining compliance with the GWG specification was the leading request of customers using PRINERGY workflow systems in Europe.
“Achieving GWG compliance for PRINERGY workflow systems further extends the open, expandable framework that forms the backbone of a KODAK Unified Workflow solution,” said Jon Bracken, Director of Product Management, KODAK Unified Workflow solutions. “It is another example of how KODAK Unified Workflow solutions can help print business owners eliminate errors and workflow bottlenecks in prepress, maximizing their investments in digital and offset production systems.”
The goal of the Ghent PDF Workgroup is to make it easy to produce and exchange reliable digital documents for use throughout the publishing workflow, from creation to final print production. Kodak is a member of the Ghent PDF Workgroup.
PRINERGY Preflight software enables total quality control of input files by performing preflight checks on PDF files and sending error or warning messages to the operator if specifications aren’t met. By automatically eliminating problems associated with PDF files that haven’t been properly created, PRINERGY Preflight software reduces delays and costs associated with manual errors. PRINERGY Preflight software increases output consistency and quality, as well as production speed and throughput.
The GWG is an international assembly of graphic arts professionals established to create, test, and disseminate best practices and specifications for publishing workflows. The GWG organization is working at the global level to further develop the PDF/X industry standard, enabling effective and reliable data exchange between, for example, agencies and printshops.
The GWG offers a uniform standard of excellence in the production and preflighting of PDF files for a variety of specialist applications. The specifications are sets of best practices guidelines based on and compliant with ISO PDF/X standards, and enhanced with additional guidelines to support different market segments, output processes or workflows. Enhancing the existing (PDF/X) standards with practical, vertical market specifications and best practices allows for more secure and productive digital workflows.
