ROCHESTER, N.Y. – September 1, 2005 – George Eastman House, the world's largest museum of photography and film, and Kodak have collaborated to produce a superb example of digital color printing at its finest. The George Eastman House 2004 Annual Report represents a true collaboration between designer and print experts to exemplify best practices in designing for digital output, opening up new creative avenues and showcasing the technology’s strengths. The resulting document is a richly textured, image-filled, high-impact piece containing a variety of paper stocks, produced in multiple versions for different audiences, that reflects the image of Eastman House and highlights the versatility of the KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 digital production color press.

“The annual report created in collaboration with Kodak has elevated our museum’s image worldwide,” said Dr. Anthony Bannon, director, George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film. “George Eastman House is many museums under one roof, and in teaming with Kodak to utilize the benefits of digital technology we were able to create four different versions of the annual report, each containing focused sections reflecting the interests of our varied audiences comprising photographers, filmmakers, the local and regional community, and general audiences. The publication’s superb quality can be measured by the creative use of color, layout, paper, and special effects, all possible through NEXPRESS printing.”

“George Eastman House is the world’s premier museum of imaging, embracing the very highest standards of both the classic and contemporary,” said Venkat Purushotham, general manager and vice president, Digital Printing Solutions, Eastman Kodak Company. “This project was a wonderful opportunity for two world-class organizations to team up to design and produce a piece that accentuates the strengths of digital printing on the NEXPRESS 2100 press, and showcase the astonishing depth and breadth of the museum. The result is a true reflection of the legacy of innovation begun by George Eastman.”

The report was printed using the KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 digital production color press, with one spread output on a KODAK DIGIMASTER E125 digital production system. Thanks to the versatility of digital printing technology, a variety of paper types were utilized, such as vellum, linen and glossy stocks. Pages feature special spot colors and coatings, as well as high-gloss finish produced using the KODAK NEXGLOSSER glossing unit. The piece was finished using the booklet maker for the DIGIMASTER system.
Amy Van Dussen, Art Director, George Eastman House, said, “I was thrilled with the opportunity to work with Kodak and the NEXPRESS 2100 press to produce the George Eastman House 2004 Annual Report. The breadth of features the NEXPRESS equipment offers, combined with its luscious color reproduction, allowed me to design a truly stunning publication. Through a combination of images from the George Eastman House collection, mixed paper stocks, and the ability to apply spot colors and flood gloss coating, the reader finds surprises with the turn of each page. Our partnership with Kodak, the strength of the team, and the amazing equipment they offer allowed our flagship publication to speak to each individual reader in a way that no other printing technology could.”

Porter Bibb, former publisher of Rolling Stone magazine and George Eastman House trustee, said, “The George Eastman House annual report is the best of any kind I've ever seen from any non-profit or for-profit organization. I am overwhelmed by the creativity, quality, and effectiveness of this publication.”
Kodak will produce the George Eastman House annual report as a featured application in booth #6707 at the Print 05 exhibition, September 9-15 at Chicago's McCormick Place.
