ROCHESTER, NY, July 27, 2005 - Pacific Printing and Fulfillment, Inc. (PPFI) has added a second KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 digital production color press at its Redwood City, Calif. location, just over a year after its first press was installed. The rapid increase in customer demand for PPFI’s digital color output over the past year drove average monthly production volumes up by more than 250 percent, necessitating a second press.

“We’re expanding because we want to provide a broader range of services even faster,” said Vince Lepera, PPFI co-founder, president and CEO. “We’ve always considered our competition for quick production turnaround to be local copy shops. With two NEXPRESS 2100 presses, we not only surpass them hands-down on quality, we can deliver just as fast or faster. And, we’ve found that our higher-quality print products are up to 40 percent less expensive.”

PPFI’s NEXPRESS 2100 press has produced a wide range of materials and applications for globally recognized brands, including The Sharper Image, Banana Republic, Google and Sony Computer Entertainment. In recent months, many of these clients have expanded the print work they need done. More company departments and functional organizations are being introduced to the advantages of digital color printing, thus giving PPFI a greater share of the customer’s business.

On a volume basis, PPFI’s growth is quite impressive. In addition to increasing average monthly page counts by more than 250 percent on the first press, the total number of pages printed in the last six months is over 3.6 million, nearly two million more than were printed in the first six months. According to Lepera, this rapid growth has not come at the expense of offset printing business. On the contrary: “Our digital capabilities have actually enhanced our offset business,” Lepera said.

PPFI recently acquired another printing company in Rancho Cordova, Calif., near Sacramento, and is currently commencing operations there. The area has several newly established industries and technology companies, which, to be competitive, expect their print providers to deliver high-quality products quickly. Lepera sees this as a real opportunity. “We’ve proven what we can do again and again, as our clients will attest. The NEXPRESS 2100 press has been a key factor in our growth, and I expect we’ll be looking to add a third press later this year as our other location becomes known and the market sees what we can deliver.”

“We’ve set up a fully automated Web-to-print system for efficient online ordering. We’re printing on even more substrates, producing a wider variety of jobs, and variable data printing is an emerging area as well,” Lepera added. “We have evolved from just a printer to a full-service production and marketing services provider, and Kodak has been an important supplier along the way.”
